We held our first Vic Park Soup for 2017 on July 25. It was our best one yet! 124 Vic Parkians joined us to hear about their hood, connect with others and enjoy a cheap school night excursion.
We love Soup because it shows all the things we are trying to achieve here at the Collective. It's a collaboration between local small business DTC, another volunteer community group Victoria Park Rotary, a local artist The Fawn and local residents, to make the area “uniquely awesome”.
We heard from 4 worthy projects -
Hannah and her Dad Geoff are keen to create the Dupre Lane Backyard Gallery -
turning the classic 1970's Lathlain shed into a small professional gallery space for artists/makers to show their work in either solo or joint exhibitions and a casual and considered space for Vic Park residents to access and enjoy art.
Lighthouse Photography by Cyrus wants to create, promote and host seven Victoria Park Photo Learning Tours for the community suitable for beginners and amateur photographers.
Rutland Corner | A Community Food Tree Project is providing access to urban green spaces for local residents to connect, learn, share produce and work together to improve the quality of living. Lindsay and Helmuth require some help to fund around 40 fruit trees of varying species on the unused space in Lathlain.
Adrian from Optin to Life was the lucky winner on the night taking home a whopping $1240 to continue their idea of connecting new Mums with volunteers in their local community. At Optin, they believe that every mum needs a time for herself, to be herself during the course of a busy week. A mother’s health is central to the health of her family, and her community. Social support is evidence based prevention and treatment for postnatal mental ill-health. Optin reduces isolation by empowering women to help each other.
Come along to our next Vic Park Soup on Tuesday 26 September!
